Why not just make it 13 years or older, like they do on some contests....

Unless it includes alchahol...

There was a minor refinement of the age restriction. Please review the posted rules one more time. The age limitation is related to the nature of the prize and the legal requirements of the states and countries from where this event is managed (UK, New York, Texas).

I think that almost every contest that I have ever heard of has been 18 years and older.

I'm not saying that I agree with it.

I see...well it must be something, if you are bound by legal restrictions and what not. Well, the 'official' start is in May, right?

If it includes a couple of barrels of Cornish Scrumpy, you can count me in

I see no relevance in competing when i can't actually win.

What good is playing if you can't be the best?

What the hell could the grand prize be then? Drugs? Porn?

I think that's a bit, well, incredibly unfair.

Deny Ignorance

Now where have I heard that before, umm....

ATS has many users under 18, including myself, and of all sites I would presume that ATS knows that just because you're over 18 doesn't make you any superior or more intelligent, so it would seem logical to have a prize open to all ages, discriminating no one.
After all, knowledge is the ultimate gift; and everyone can gain knowledge, no age limits.

P.S- who the heck'd participate if they couldn't claim the prize?? looooney bins

I'm not resting till I get a decent answer though, this is really, really ignorant of ATS (Ohh I never thought they'd let down they're own motto, it's like when my cousin got kicked out the Brownies for saying the Queen was...welll anyway)

EliteXizer- are you a walking talking, online ad for mozilla?lol, I have firefox v. good.

I was just wondering if you can do anything like having the legal gardian claim the prize, if the winner is under 18...... I will be over 18 by May 1st, but I would really like to see everyone have a shot at this, I just thought I would throw that idea out there and see what everyone thinks

Errrmmmm.

It is a legal requirement for SO to post the under 18 thing.

If you found a winning lottery ticket what would you do? Hand it in and say that you're too young?

Unfortunately, it's out of our control, as is the case with nearly every contest of this sort. Legal issues prevent us from "awarding" prizes to people under 18 (in some cases it can be lower, but the laws of the regions from which an event like this is being managed superseed less-restrictive laws). However, if you pay close attention to the hints and clues, there are valuable ways in which someone under 18 can still participate and be very happy with their participation. The only restriction is "awarding" a premium grand prize... which may be resolved by a legal guardian claiming such a prize for you.
