Has this been posted yet?

The BBC has been allowed into the Pope's observatory at his home outside Rome. The Catholic priests who run the centre have strong views on everything from life on other planets, to whether the Star of Bethlehem actually existed. Duncan Kennedy reports.

I'm pretty sure I remember something along these lines was posted at least once before... but don't quote me on that. Sometimes... judicious use of the search button has been known to solve these questions.... ...?

I guess some people find the idea of clergy as scientists as a bit oxymoronic?
I don't really find it all that odd. Religion does not necessarily have to preclude being scholarly or scientific IMO.

The Vatican Observatory was established more than 400 years ago. Its original purpose was the creation of a new, more accurate calendar (Gregorian).

In 1981 the Vatican Observatory Research Group was established in Tucson, Arizona.

Thanks for the information.
The Church supports education even among it many leaders and followers.
I recall one person relating how they became a physicist.
I assume a priest to join the organization.

So the big V has a base out west, the closer to be by the lost gold
at Victorio Peak:

The Strange Mystery of Victorio Peak

A mystery also investigated by William R. Lyne with even more
earth shaking findings. Not as much as Velakovsky but in
an archeological way.

The maps for the gold are still available.
