Boy-killing Egypt teacher jailed

Maths teacher Haitham Nabeel Abdelhamid, 23, took Islam Amr Badr outside the classroom and hit him violently in the stomach.

The 11-year-old boy fainted and later died in hospital of heart failure in the city of Alexandria.

The court was told the boy had four broken ribs.

Abdelhamid was convicted of manslaughter.

He said he only meant to discipline the pupil and did not mean to hurt anyone.

First off I have not absolute opinion on corporal punishment one way or the other. I do have a problem of not knowing the difference between something like a paddle on the bottom and slugging some one in the gut. In this case it was hard enough to break four ribs. I got to say there is a real problem some where if that person for some reason thought doing that would be ok.
