In astronomy, "nearby object" is a somewhat misleading description. I don't think we have anything to worry about....

From the same source.


Some members of the research team believe the source could be less than a few hundred parsecs away.


A parsec is approximately 3.262 light years.

Nope. It's nothing to do with Planet X/Whatever-its-called-this-week. NASA would spill the beans on it in a heart-beat if they could, as it would guarantee them as much funding as the military.

I don't know why people think NASA would sit on such interesting information. Remember when they thought they found Martian bacteria in that meteorite? Bill Clinton told everyone in an address. They want to tell everyone about this stuff, and they will - if they find it.
