This is a few days out of date but was not covered too well by the media imo. Recently two nearby planetary star systems were succesfully imaged for
the first time.
BBC news link showing both images and a video clip
The planet imaged around
Fomalhaut Type A3V star only 25 light years away.
More images of this system
And the three planets around
HR 8799 a star 129 light years away with a complex spectral type perhaps
influenced by the extensive dust cloud around it.
There are currently
326 confirmed exosolar planets out there, there are also 3 other systems that were imaged with
unconfirmed planets (they may be brown dwarfs)
