Let's play Stichomancy-- predicting the future by pulling random lines out of books. Sort of the random stuff Nostradamous did, I think, who knows? There's a great site called facade.com where you can play this all day...

So let's see:

The first book I will consult is "The Wizard Of Oz"
--Who will win the 2004 US Election?--
"The country here is rich & pleasant, but you must pass through rough and dangerous places before you reach the end of your journey."
--I need more specific info, a name, a person--
"The biggest of the tigers came up to the Lion and bowed, saying: 'Welcome, O King of Beasts! You have come in good time to fight our enemy and bring peace to all the animals of the forest once more."

Ok, Next Question, this time from Stephen King's IT:
--What name will be connected with a very popular and well-covered newstory over the next 2 weeks?--
"'R-Richie?' Bill asks. 'What i-is it?'
"But Richie barely hears him. The force of memory sweeps through him like a tide..."

--Will there be another attack or other disaster within the next month? -- let's ask Naked Lunch by Burroughs:--
"A tea head leaps up screaming 'I got the fear!' and runs into Mexican night bringing down backbrains of world. The Executioner #s in terror at sight of the condemned man..."

--Next celebrity scandal? Trying Siddhartha by Hesse--
"A day came when young Siddhartha said what was in his mind and openly turned against his father."

--ok one more: what do you see in my immediate future, say, next week or so? Let's try Fellowship Of The Ring--
"In their dark cloaks they were as invisible as if they all had magic rings. Since they were Hobbits, and were trying to be silent, they made no noise that even hobbits would hear."
--aw cmon, give me something more, a juicy tidbit--
"Ash nazg durbatuluk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulul agh burzum-ishi krimpatul"

oh well.
Have fun doing this at home, kids!

I'm so very glad you enjoyed the game, fellows.

Here's another one I invite you to try, since it is so very easy to do. It's called "23"

Pick up the first (the absolute first one) book (or magazine) you see, ask a question, turn to the 23rd page and let your eyes fall on the word or first grouping of words (or image) you see. That will be your answer.

Make it a good question, not just "will I get an ingrown toenail or something." If it is not a good question, it simply will not work.

Then, to confirm your first answer, quickly turn to channel 23 on your television set (assuming you have cable--you should, nearly everybody does)

Good luck!

Let's try this page 23 thing out...

Will Muslim terrorist attack the United States with nukes in the near future?

*turns to page 23 of nearby book*
The exception to this is the Windows NT Option Pack. The NT Option Pack is included with both Professional and Enterprise editions of Visual Studio.....

Perhaps this means yes, but there are exceptions to the answer.

I just tried it out.

My question was, "Will there be World Peace".

The answer was "Her thighs trembled as his hand moved down to her moist............"

Maybe it doesn't work with porno mags?

You might have to be an i-ching addicted Jungian witch specialising in her own questionable brand of chaos magic for this process to work properly.

To play, try
www.facade.com...

or for info on technique try
www.expage.com...

Question: Will I survive the apocolipse?

Answer: Limit - one coupon per purchase of an style. Not to be transferred, sold or reproduced. No facsimilies accepted.

I don't get the impression that is a good sign.
