I was just reading a piece on Alternet and it seems that there was a lot of coercion going on before the 2nd vote to pass the bailout bill.

No real surprise there - we know how it works, with the mutual scratching of backs, and veiled threats (sometimes) but what really disgusted me, was the alleged threat of martial law.

"The only way they can pass this bill is by creating and sustaining a panic atmosphere. … Many of us were told in private conversations that if we voted against this bill on Monday that the sky would fall, the market would drop two or three thousand points the first day and a couple of thousand on the second day, and a few members were even told that there would be martial law in America if we voted no."

Is this what it has come to?
When people can no longer vote the way they really want to without threats of this magnitude being used?

This comes after the First Brigade of the Third Infantry Division, three to four thousand soldiers, had been deployed in the United States as of October 1, with a mission of "crowd control"

In another interview, retired U.S. Air Force Colonel David Antoon spoke:

"If the President directed the First Brigade to arrest Congress, what could stop him?"

"Nothing. Their only recourse is to cut off funding. The Congress would be at the mercy of military leaders to go to them and ask them not to obey illegal orders."

"But these orders are now legal?'"

"Correct."

"If the President directs the First Brigade to arrest a bunch of voters, what would stop him?"

"Nothing. It would end up in courts but the action would have been taken."

"If the President directs the First Brigade to kill civilians, what would stop him?"

"Nothing."

We've had many threads about a conspiracy which would see the imposition of martial law, and lead to the election being cancelled so that bush&co could stay in power - are we starting to see this in action?

Or is the mere threat of it enough to bend people to his will......

Time will tell I suppose - the next month or so is vital for the freedom of the US, such as it is after the implementation of H.R. 1955 and other acts designed to take away freedoms rather than simply fight terrorists.

Of course this doesn't just concern the US - it also concerns a lot of the western world, if not the whole planet.

Imagine a dictator, backed by the most powerfull military in the world, who is able to write and re-write any law that suits his purpose.

And it's already been threatened......
