I was at a concert the other night and as usual, I typically think back to past concerts that I've been to and see where it compares. Thinking of the concerts that I have seen, I started to think of a lot that I would like to see. So for a little means of chit chat, I thought we could compare lists of what bands/musicians we have seen live.

'ere goes.... (I'll start with most recent)

  • Elton John
  • Carrie Underwood
  • Ozzy Osbourne
  • Justin Timberlake
  • Aerosmith
  • Cheap Trick
  • Good Charlotte
  • the Rolling Stones
  • Kanye West
  • Alice Cooper
  • INXS
  • Sum 41
  • Simple Plan
  • Hedley
  • Chilliwack
  • Great Big Sea
  • Dr. Hook

A bit of everything listed there. Some of the pop punk bands that I went to see were typically something I bought for my sister or they opened for another band. Oddly, Aerosmith was probably one of the more disappointing concerts. Sound quality was mediocre and every song they went into 90 second guitar solos. After a few songs it just being irritating.

So share some lists if you read this. I'm always interested in hearing other live acts that people have seen.

A few acts that I am desperate to see are...

  • Paul McCartney
  • John Mayer
  • AC/DC
  • The Who
  • Coldplay
  • Led Zeppelin
  • Bedouin Soundclash
  • Eric Clapton

Well, don't really know where to start, seen quite a lot of bands / artists ranging from Megastars to the most obscure, little known bands.
Here's some attempt at listing the more well known.

    The Damned.
    The Sex Pistols.
    Madonna.
Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band.
    The Who.
    The Cult.
    The Manic Street Preachers.
    Happy Mondays.
    The Charlatans.
    Alice Cooper.
    Meat Loaf.
    Bon Jovi.
    Less Than Jake.
    Stiff Little Fingers.
    The Levellers.
    Alanis Morrisette.
    Skunk Anansie.
    Deacon Blue.
    The Exploited.
    Infa-Riot.
    Cock SParrer.
    The Business.
    The Specials.
    Secret Affair.
    The Beat.
    Paul Weller.
    Oasis.
    Blur.
    R.E.M.
    Ocean Colour Scene.
    Bjork.
    The Prodigy.
    Orbital.
    Cypress Hill.
    Blitz.
    The Buzzcocks.
    Big Audio Dynamite.
    Doves.
    Green Day.
    The Hives.
    Kaiser Chiefs.
    New Model Army.
    Senser.
    Dodgy.
    Siouxsie And The Banshees.
    Stereophonics.
    Major Accident.
    Joe Strummer And The Mescalero's.
    The Stranglers.
    999
    UK Subs.
    Discharge.
    GBH.
    The Lurkers.
    Bad Manners.
    Madness.
    Chelsea.
    U2.
    Hue And Cry.
    Ash.
    Keane.
    The Stone Roses.
    Elastica
    Primal Scream.
    The Streets.
    Sham 69.
    Motorhead.
    Suede.
    Maximo Park.
    Arctic Monkeys.
    Iggy Pop.

Pretty broad spectrum there, didn't realise just how many till I started listing them, know i've forgotten a few as well.
Seen absolutely loads more Punk, Oi and Ska bands, far too many to list here.

My one biggest regret is not seeing The Clash.

Sadly, there is no new band that I feel really desperate to see, is that a sign that the music scene is pretty bland at present or am I getting old?
    Either is pretty sad!

Elton John/Billy Joel (back stage passes for this one)
Pearl Jam - small theater, charity event
    The Stones
    The Allman Brothers
    Black Crows
    REM
    The Dead
    The Concert For New YOrk
    en.wikipedia.org...
Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration (George Harrison!)
    www.amazon.com...
    BB King
    Buddy Guy
    U2
    Elvis Costello - Private concert
Bon Jovi - Hillary fund raiser (there for the music)
    Paul Simon - small venue
2 Grammy shows - one in NY and one in LA
    Musicares Awards honoring Bono
    u2log.com...
    Musicares Awards honoring Elton John
(can't find a good link - sat with Hef and his ladies for half the show)

I've been going to concerts since I was 14 - seen countless shows and have been fortunate enough to have friends with wicked connections (thus the list above).

that said, possibly the most fun musical event I've been to was taking my daughter to see Miley Cyrus last year. A good friend of mine was promoting the tour here and he snagged seats that were 6 rows off the front, 3 rows off the runway. Watching my daughter during the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus blew away everything else.

age helps. I've been going to shows for roughly 25 years. I've seen some bands over 100 times thanks to living in New Orleans for 4 years.
Jazz Fest provides some stellar shows - big bands playing under phony names.

Some cool lists here, not gonna try to list all mine, but some of my all time favourites in no particular order include...

Jim White, small club in Manchester (UK), awesome fun, really good banter, nice chilled-out vibe, good fun.

Drive-by Truckers... small venue in Soho, amazing, 3 hour set, hard-drinking, great stories and really nice guys - on the Decoration Day tour.

Godspeed You Black Emperor, South Bank Arts Centre, wooahhh! Awesome, Sigur Ros in support, very heavy.

Sigur Ros, Union Chapel, in a church? Really cool small gig before they got big.

R.E.M. Earls Court, Up tour, I really wasn't too fussed about this, took my girlfriend at the time for her birthday and they were so damn good, totally rocked and I hate big gigs usually.

Tool, Manchester Apollo, Lateralus tour, over-indulged, I was dancing even when they weren't playing, my mind was blown, still trying to get some of those synapses back.

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Abattoir Blues tour, Brixton... freeking sweet.

Too many others to mention, although there were loads of death metal gigs from my teen years, Cannibal Corpse were excellent as were Bolt Thrower, Napalm Death and Entombed, Deicide were boring and totally blown away by the support acts.

Wish I'd gotten to see Tom Waits.

I am truly envious at some of the acts listed.

I passed on the opportunity to see Bon Jovi last December in Toronto. I had some school stuff going on at the time and was bogged down at work, which is very rare for me as I will typically drop everything.

Just realized as I typed this, I left out Garth Brooks from my original list. I went to see his world tour back in '96.

I don't like Bon Jovi much but a friend of mine asked if we wanted to go. Billionaire backyard party. Jon played for about an hour. Then Bill and Hil came out and ruined the good time.

Not to derail but, I'm curious. If you could pick one band/musician that you could see, who would it be? From any era so, if you say pick The Stones circa 1970.

I'd go with the Beatles in the mid-60's, but in a small venue.

I've gone to see shows like Ozzy and the Stones where theatrics were a huge part and they really provide an entertaining show. But sometimes certain people just need music. As we've said about Elton, he's a guy that only needs the music to put on a helluva show. I'd classify the Beatles here as well. Not that they are known for theatrics, but in larger stadiums or concert venues.. the screams of the crowd will minimize the music.

So the Beatles in the mid-60's in a venue of no more than a thousand people.
