Obama and McCain Issue Joint Statement on the Economy

"The American people are facing a moment of economic crisis. No matter how this began, we all have a responsibility to work through it and restore confidence in our economy. The jobs, savings, and prosperity of the American people are at stake.

"Now is a time to come together - Democrats and Republicans - in a spirit of cooperation for the sake of the American people. The plan that has been submitted to Congress by the Bush Administration is flawed, but the effort to protect the American economy must not fail.

This is a time to rise above politics for the good of the country. We cannot risk an economic catastrophe. Now is our chance to come together to prove that Washington is once again capable of leading this country."

So basically BOTH parties or at least candidates dont want their name attached to this crisis. I think its a good statement for both candidates.

Thanks for the link.

To bad Obama had to make it political with attaching his own Talking Points to the end of it instead of releasing a press release just for those.

This is because the release came from the Obama campaign. You would suspect that the McCain side would do the same or if not are trying to cover for the "jumping" on Sen. Obama's idea of a joint statement and then going solo.

Either way I dont see much here, just a good try to try to unify the country so we can swallow together a $700 billion watermelon.

This bail out is the biggest corporate scam ever. Talk about giving free money to people that don't need it. This is like giving a loan to your drunken uncle with a gambling problem, it is a temporary fix at best, a band-aid of sorts for the economy. If you want the economy to improve you let the big 3 in Auto fail(bailout has 25 of the 700 billion going to them) and all the other big corporation looking for a handout to fail. Did we bail out the homeowners who got in over their heads for signing ridiculous loans nor should we do it with big business. Americans should see our true colors here and that is we are more socialist than capitalist these days. In a free economy the big companies and corporations are allowed to die just the same as small businesses do everyday but this is not the case. If we are in a depressionary economy do stuff to help out the blue collar class instead of the wall street white collars. Buck the FED!
