On September 23, 2001, by Executive Order 13224, I declared a national emergency with respect to persons who commit, threaten to commit, or support terrorism, pursuant to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act...
the national emergency declared on September 23, 2001, and the measures adopted on that date to deal with that emergency, must continue in effect beyond September 23, 2008.

This is an abbreviated update to the administrative orders as per official Presidential Documents. Please see the link for the full document. The dates noted highlight Sept 23, 2008 for the continued declaration of the national emergency. I've been unable to determine if this executive order has been renewed annually -OR- if this is the first time it is being extended. The terms state very clearly that the extended actions are not only to threats of national security but also to the economy.

Are we looking at the preliminary stages of martial law? Is Bush preparing to act on a very nervous audience or do we dismiss this as standard government procedure?

I found 2 threads on ATS dealing with the 23.09.2008. One is about NASA announcing something about the sun and its change in activities. The other is about mini-nukes hit Manhatten and London. Not sure if the Stock Market has something to do with it.

Maybe Bush knows something else.

Lets see what tomorrow brings.

I don't think the emphasis is so much on the 23rd of September itself as it is long term. The date is merely the anniversary of the original declaration. To me it says that regardless of what transpires the extension will be active. Given the tumultuous economic problems of late and the original wording it could lead to play out to many possible scenarios.

Of course, as expected, it did turn out to be just another day.

Now, there are, of course, all sorts of dire predictions about the time frame leading up to Election Day.

Can we make a pact? If we get through the Election and none of the predictions/rumors/revelations come true, can we just all go back to enjoying life? Can we focus more on all of the beauty in the mundane parts of our respective lives and less on when the world will end?

Please?
