With all the recent economic activity, talks of the US economy collapsing and alleged coming Terrorist activity how long will it be before they pull the plug on the net. The parasites in charge own the mainstream media and therefore what is going on in the World but what about the Net, how long will it be before it goes if only temporarly.

Could it disappear in a matter of days/weeks?

Such questions are by the case of unknowing. Such retarded quests of knowledge fail to look for truth due to the failtering understanding of such technology.

Please look into the origins of the internet before asking such questions. If you had you'd see that the internet was founded as a means of communications incase of world wide distructive war events. The internet, or the networking of computers with computer, including wireless, would require a near compleat removal of all power to suport computer systems and any lines, including broadcast signals, to "take down the internet"...

It's RETARDED!

Never!

Completely wireless internet is the new global media.

Internet 2 will be a more powerful, more robust and an easily policed and controlled version of the web as we know it now. It has yet to become a standard but will be soon.
Digital only broadcasting (see UK) will be hand and hand with this.

This is the next step forward in the Global communications sector and unless all the major hubs, satellites, servers and lines are destroyed, i don't see how it can end. Destroying all these components would be a daunting feat as planet is already hardwired for it.

I would worry more about the migration from what we are using now to the new "controlled" & "better" system in the next few years.

the internet and intenet two pose great dangers to the world.

if everything is interconnected in one giant network we must be prepared for the inevitble arrival or AI beings who will be able to control any asepct of the interconnected world.

the most dangerous scenario is if the internet becomes an ai itself ,it will essentially become a god like ai capable of controling the world however it wishes, including our minds and the past.

Incarnated, there is no need to be rude, and your wrong, we may control the softwear but we dont'control the hardwear do we and just how do you think your computer will work with no juice. There are ways and means of shuting anything down if the perps who have the power wanted to just as they can shut down anything else.

I don't think the net would be very hard to be taken down or at least, very strictly controlled by the people who issue the IP addresses to you're ISP.
Your ISP buys a range of IP's then distributes them to the end customer.

Only sell the ISP 1% of its current bank of IP addresses = Internet will cost vastly more than it does today and looking at the economy as it stands, most people other than the "elite" would not be able to sit aside the funds to pay.

There is a lot of other things pertaining to this that I wont get into but its pretty safe to say, if poo hits the fan, it would be relatively easy to shut off the parts of the net that the powers that be, want shut off.

Dermo, I did not mention destroying the net just taking it down, and yes those controlling the Sats, servers and everything else would have the means to control it would they not. And if Martial Law was invoked in the US do you think the people would still have access to it. Has not bufoon Bush got an exec order to control all communications and media for such an event?

In that case, it would be easy to take out the net for most of the US. Just shut of a couple of the major Hubs and disable the 3G and WAP Isp's.
This is an Unlikely scenario though, as i was trying to say above (albeit unclearly lol), the Net is too much of a media machine in the US for your government to shut it down completely. It would also cause massive losses to many Major corporations which would be unacceptable.
If the US government wanted to stop you from visiting certain sites, they could shut down those sites servers (if they are in the US), hack the sites or block the sites from being accessed from the US - Ie. Internet access in China.

To completely shut down the net for the US would be stupid. Its a major propaganda machine in the US at the moment and is the one of the main ways for controlling you. If the unlikely 'Martial Law' scenario came into play, the Web would still be a key factor in disinformation and propaganda.

Every corporation needs the Internet too much now so I dont think it will be shut down. What will happen is that they will invent Internet 2, find a way to bring all the corporations over to it, and then kill the original Internet.

Of course Internet 2 will be built from the ground up so that nobody can ever be anonymous or hard to find.

Another scenario is to just kill the economies of the world to bring it to its knees, then rebuild everything the way they like it, including world government and so on. Im starting to think this is what they will prefer. Its faster.

Dont have kids, they will have to grow up in the future.

They can never shut down the net.
People were connecting computers before there were any servers.
Im sure it wouldn't be as good as it is now but they couldnt just stop that from happening.
People can connect through radio through phone line etc from one pc to the next.
And now high speed wireless in theory if you got enough people with enough antenna's they could make there own network.

Very easily monitored Im afraid, just like you today can listen in on any cellphone. The point is that whatever network we use in the future, it will be monitored and controlled and not anonymous at all.

Already been done man,
www.internet2.edu...
www.slate.com...

I think commercial migration is to start in the next couple of years. Massive data transfer speeds, completely wireless structure capabilities because it cored on new tech, privatized, regulated and completely controlled.
