NASA is predicting the next Solar Maximum will arrive in 2012 and will be the strongest in 50 years. At the same time, the sun will align with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in 26,000 years, on the exact date of the end of the Mayan calendar, Dec. 21, 2012.

Well this hasn't been discussed before.

There are two points in 26000 years. Our Solar System is in a spiral arm. Our solar system is going around in a circle that takes 26000 years. Twice in that time we cross through the galatic equator, a radial disk of extream gravational phenomenon, and the passing takes about 7 years total.

The last time we passed through that disk is the earliest record of ancience civilization known to mankind (10500bce). There's been several "World"s on this planet. A world is defined by a global civilization of sorts. Every 13000 years we undergo major world changes.

There are actuall 4 points on the 26000 year cycle. Besides the two points of the passing through the galatic equator there's also the two points at extream distances away from the galatic equator.

As 26000 year cycle can be seen as a "Great year" the 4 points within that cycle can be seen as a the Great Seasons.

Therefore the "End World" events also known as the "End Time" or end times or other statements, takes about 7 years. The dec21 2012 date is basicly the midway point in the crossing. There will be 3.5 years assending and decending from that point. That puts the event dates at or about May2009-May2016

There are two forecasts for the next solar maximum

1.NCAR scientist Mausumi Dikpati which will be in 2012

When the belt is turning "fast," it means that lots of magnetic fields are being swept up, and that a future sunspot cycle is going to be intense. This is a basis for forecasting: "The belt was turning fast in 1986-1996," says Hathaway. "Old magnetic fields swept up then should re-appear as big sunspots in 2010-2011."

Like most experts in the field, Hathaway has confidence in the conveyor belt model and agrees with Dikpati that the next solar maximum should be a doozy. But he disagrees with one point. Dikpati's forecast puts Solar Max at 2012. Hathaway believes it will arrive sooner, in 2010 or 2011.

"History shows that big sunspot cycles 'ramp up' faster than small ones," he says. "I expect to see the first sunspots of the next cycle appear in late 2006 or 2007—and Solar Max to be underway by 2010 or 2011."

Who's right? Time will tell. Either way, a storm is coming.

a) The Mayan Calendar doesn't end; b) Maybe the Mayan calendar recycling on this date...is for this VERY reason. It doesn't take a scholar to see that the Mayans were keen on the cosmos...and their calendar was based around it. and c) this is beating a very dead and rotting horse.

It wouldn't make sense that their Great Cycle would be in direct correspondance to the Suns' solar maximums, since they occur frequently.

Because leap year wasent implemented until the 1400's??? And it takes the Earth I 365.23 days to orbit the sun that means for all those years our calender was in place without a leap year the year 2008 currently is not the true year (I heard somewhere is should be like the year 2010)

Maybe someone else can find more information...I heard this when everyone freaked out over the year 2000.
