A van packed full of chemical explosives with a timer was discovered outside the American Consulate in Karachi, Pakistan.

Two men exited the vehicle and told guards it had broken down. They fled the scene in another car. When the guards examined they car, they discovered a 750 liter drum and immediately called for the bomb disposal squad.

The van was towed away and disarmed without any injuries or damage. Analysis of the chemicals and the van is ongoing.

Secretary of State Colin Powell is scheduled to visit Pakistan on Wednesday local time, though he is not scheduled to be in Karachi at any point.

That was sort of stupid of the two guys. They should have just parked where it wouldn't be noticed and left.

...wouldn't be noticed...???

i believe all embassies & consulates have 24/7
video coverage of their surroundings!

Which bring me to this question, does the
check in on US Embassies abroad?
what is the new Directives, if any, since the SPAIN 3-11?

It looks like the bomb was bigger than the car.

Its a wonder they could drive it to the location. Not really a discreet operation.
