Did China Fake Olympic Everest Summit?

blogs.news.com.au

An interesting conspiracy theory is taking root in the run-up to the Beijing Olympics, one that says the Chinese Summit of Mt Everest with the Olympic torch back in May was faked. Considering the history of this particular expedition, it’s one conspiracy theory that might actually be worth a closer look.

This seems to be strange one. On the one hand; we have a Government that will stop at nothing to cultivate an image of strength and uniformity, that perhaps would go to the lengths of faking the Everest ascent for the sake of Olympic propaganda. On the other hand this expedition was sponsored by said Government that would have poured the necessary funds into ensuring the expedition was a success.

Opinions?

just my humble opinion - but if I was going to fake it - then given the exclusion of foreigners and press

i would have thrown the full might of the PLA airforce at the job

and cheated by using helicopters to put the " climbers " on the summit and recover them later

it could be done

I could see this a s a possible thing to do in light of being on the world's stage.

Do you think that with the prestige of holding the Olympics, any country wants to have a failure??

No, I'm not a fan of the Chinese because of their human right abuses and their socialist views.

I'm just saying that if it was us or whomever, we would all go to extraordinary lengths to ensure success of the torch.

Case and point, remember Atlanta???

I don't think you can justifiably say that China is a socialist regime, given the PRC's stance on human rights. It shows all the markers of a dictatorship, where social welfare is actually a PR exercise.

We in the west are slowly coming to realise how corrupt the PRC government and its leaders are and the Olympics places China under greater scrutiny.

Remember the book Animal Farm, where the leaders of the revolution become the oppressive establishment it sought to oust. It is only a mater of time until the PRC will crown a new Emperor of the Middle Kingdom and post humously attribute the new dynasty to Mao.

But, history repeats itself, every dynasty in China has began this way, why let several thousand years of time change the done thing?

Come on man...

Considering how they can use CGI fireworks, why couldnt they pull something like this off...

If you went to the link, and then clicked on some of the MANY links in that article, you would see that there is some valid points there...

I have a feeling that the Author of that article would fit in VERY nicely here at ATS... or mabye, even is already...

The fireworks were real, not faked.

Check this video out first
tw.youtube.com...

and then think about it, one hundred world leaders and 100000 people were sitting there inside the stadium. Do you just show them a big screen to watch fireworks?

For your president's safety, the fireworks on TV were also real but not live (prerecorded). Several helicopters were needed to recored the fireworks, if one driver went mad, Mr. Bush might get killed. The ceremony from NBC was not live anyway, so why do you care?
