Only a day after the devastating attacks in Madrid that have struck both fear and determination into Spain they marched in their millions to collectively protest against the terror that robbed them of innocent citizens and children, some of which still lay unclaimed, some may never be claimed and will be consigned to the vaults as "John Doe 1" or should that be Juan Doe? So they marched and wove their banners, mostly spanish flags adorned with black silk ribbons, the people of spain stood up and said No to terrorism, is this the first true battle of world war 3? Because if it is... i think we've won already.

No one was sure whether it was over. Bob Dylan's Knocking on Heaven's Door and U2's Bloody Sunday hummed from radios, in between tearful speeches from DJs...

These attacks were terrible and devastating not only to the people of Spain, but to the rest of Europe, if you speak to average people they will tell you that this frightens them more than Sept 11th did, Europe was detached from that and many of us thought you had it coming, but this brings it home to us that this is a global war on terror that will make everyone targets, but we're not going to take it.

The marches and candle-light vigils and all of the press does not help matters. It may make people feel better, but when one of these whackjob terrorist look at the paper, they see this...

They don't see unity. Are marches the best that can be done? A protest? More candles? Are we going to collectively march into the sunset and shrug saying this is the best we can do folks.

I feel great sadness for these people and great anger for the turds that did this, but what really gets done about it? Nothing. Because it just continues to happen.

Stop giving terrorists the attention they desire. This march may have been against terror, but it's giving terrorists what they want. Attention.

Another bomb goes off, another march commences and their ranks continue to swell with new recruits.

Is this the best we can do?...

you're absolutely right TS. It certainly is NOT the best we can do...

the BEST we can do is no longer tolerate it as a society and reject the governments that fabricate these false attacks on very real human lives to justify a need for greater security and more Big Brother.

that day will come. it is inevitable. those who were in Genoa in July of 2001 know what I am talking about
