Incredible Discoveries Made In Remote Caves

www.livescience.com

Scientists exploring caves in the bone-dry and mostly barren Atacama Desert in Chile stumbled upon a totally unexpected discovery this week: water.

They also found hundreds of thousands of animal bones in a cave, possibly evidence of some prehistoric human activity.

The findings are preliminary and have not been analyzed.

The expedition is designed to learn how to spot caves on Mars by studying the thermal signatures of caves and non-cave features in hot, dry places here on Earth. Scientists think Martian caves, some of which may already have been spotted from space, could be good places to look for life.

Fantastic method for creating a benchmark for remote sensor technology usage on Mars, but what is up with the cave stuffed with bones? And water where the is only 1 millieter of rainfall a year? Added one of the expedition members expedition blogs for added flavor. Man, science is better than fiction anyday...

its possible they could have been washed in there by a past flood (or hid in there thinking they would be protected from it. checking how and where the bones were found in relation to the cave would be an indicator ie if they were all at the back of the cave and buried slightly they were most likely pushed there by water. that's one theory anyway.
