George not guilty of Dando murder

www.news.bbc.co.uk

Barry George has been found not guilty of murdering BBC television presenter Jill Dando outside her London home.

Mr George, 48, of Fulham, west London, denied shooting 37-year-old Miss Dando on her doorstep on 26 April 1999.

He was retried at the Old Bailey, having first faced trial for the killing in 2001.

His defence argued he was not capable of carrying out what could be seen as the \\\"perfect crime\\\" that required \\\"meticulous\\\" planning.

Mr George has consistently insisted he did not murder Jill Dando.

Nice, so now are we going to find the real reason that she was killed. I wonder what programs she was making or researching at the time?? Anybody know?
Hope they find out who and why.
Peace

I seem to remember that one of the theories, at the time, was that she turned down the "advances" of a Russian mafia boss. Seems a possible explanation to me

Around the time of her murder a few things where thrown around that may have been the cause of her death,

One being that she had made a televised appeal on behalf of kosovan refugees and that it had made an "ex lover" or a "serbian hit man" angry,

It is a strange case, the mircoscopic speck of gunpowder or whatever it was found about a year after the killing sent him down i think.
He had mental problem's i believe which his defense used saying he couldn't have done this because of his problems.

It was such a long time ago my facts maybe a bit off,i've just read some of whats happened and justice has come through.
Although 7 years of your life in prison doesn't make up for it.

so the question now is...who killed jill dando??

I personally think he did it.... what has been kept quiet is the fact he had an obsession with guns, his house was full of porn, he has a criminal record that includes attacks on women and he had an obsession with Jill Dando too (from what I remember).

The defence are saying it was the perfect crime and he couldn't have done it, well I say what if he just got lucky, shooting someone on their doorstep is NOT the perfect crime, anyone could do that, it just depends on the witnesses or lack of.

Call me crazy but I wouldn't go feeling sorry for him

That's describes virtually every man in the UK or US

he has a criminal record that includes attacks on women and he had an obsession with Jill Dando too (from what I remember).

I never heard about the criminal record or attacks either. And the "obsession" with Jill Dando was about him having a bunch of news articles in his house. Technically he did have news articles about her, indirectly, because he hoarded thousands of newspapers. So he had articles about just about everyone.

IIRC the physical evidence was very suspicious, because his coat was not treated by ordinary procedures as a piece of evidence. His coat was vunerable to contamination (read evidence being planted) because of the way it was proccessed. When it started looking like there wasn't much to go on, hey presto! they found a miniscule trace of gunpowder in his pocket.

There was never any witnesses any other kind of actual proof either. Thankfully that doesn't constitute evidence to convict someone just because they're the local nutter.

My money is on the ex-mafia boyfriend or the Serbian, people really tend to overlook these very minor facts about Jill Dandos lovelife!

Very happy George walks free, this story stunk from the beginning.

The murder inquiry focuses on a smartly-dressed man carrying a mobile telephone who was spotted leaving the scene.

• April 27 - Scotland Yard says Miss Dando was killed by a close-range shot to the side of the head from a 9mm semi-automatic pistol. A window cleaner spotted a man staking out her home an hour before the shooting. There are several sightings of the suspect.

• April 28 - Miss Dando's fiancé, Alan Farthing, declares: "I cannot think for one moment what could go through someone's mind when they do such a thing to such a beautiful, caring and well-meaning person such as Jill."

• April 29 - BBC security is stepped up after new threats are made against Radio 4 Today programme presenter John Humphrys, and BBC director of television, Alan Yentob. It emerges that Miss Dando received a letter from a "Serb source" attacking a charity appeal she made for Kosovar refugees two weeks before her death.

• April 30 - Police release an e-fit of the prime suspect. Inquiry chief Detective Chief Inspector Hamish Campbell says the killer could have had an accomplice. He releases CCTV footage showing a metallic blue Range Rover on Fulham Palace Road speeding south shortly after the killing.

Dando timeline

He didn't do it. The Police looked for an easy fit to solve a case that would of really strained their resources. An international assassin who from the description was a smooth as silk.

At the time I asked some of my circle what they thought. None said it was a lone nutter, none of them.

Someone mentioned sas.

Mr George, now 48, also posed as SAS soldier Thomas Palmer, who was involved in the Iranian Embassy siege in 1980.

news.bbc.co.uk...

BBC has a profile page on him.
I presume new evidence has come to light, but what exactly?I doubt that we will find out.

An intelligence report received at the National Intelligence Crime Service and passed to detectives, suggesting that Serbian warlord Arkan had ordered Miss Dando's execution

news.bbc.co.uk...

This has me interested as does the recent war crimes tribunal in the Hague.Maybe someone has struck a deal after all.
