Melt the caps to drill for oil

Now here is what I think is a crazy idea that has been suggested to me that I thought would be worth some discussion even if just a hypothetical.

With the apparent depletion of oil and viable new recourses scarce, deposits located at the poles are being considered, and that ‘global warning’ has been engineered to melt the caps in order to gain easier access. This is incredibly ironic, in that the oil they would be drilling for is the very same thing that has people up in arms as being the cause for the caps to melt in the first place.

As silly as this idea sounds, a part of me would not put it past the big corporations to consider or even attempt something like this if they had the means.

well i think if they wanted it they would drill it now instead of waiting hundreds of years for it all to melt.

surely if they really wanted it then they would go and get it now.
