U.S. to send envoy to Iran talks

uk.news.yahoo.com

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - In a shift in policy, the United States will send an envoy to talks this weekend between Iran and major powers over Tehran's nuclear program, a senior U.S. official said on Tuesday.

U.S. Under Secretary of State William Burns will join European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana and envoys from China, Russia, France, Britain and Germany in a meeting with Iranian nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili in Geneva on Saturday, the official said

Well it would make them look like they exhausted all peaceful efforts first.
They know damn well they will get told its Allah Akhbar or nothing.

So probably just another cheap stunt to make them look good.

Well yeah because you know only Israel and the US ever had any rhetoric and are the only ones who talk or want trouble?

Anyway, this is a good move by the US. We held firm in the 6 nation talks with NK and those are working out, and the US is finally talking to Iran which is long overdue.

last week and for x amounts of weeks before all we have heard is `bom bomb iran` and now they want to talk - thats the rhetoric and the change of face.

edit:

We held firm in the 6 nation talks with NK

no it took NK to test a weapon to bring the USA running back to the table to talk to them.

I think this is just smoke and mirrors to try and make the world believe that They the USA has done every thing it can before they strike Iran IMO

apparantly this isn`t of interest - actually talking instead of bombing..... diplomacy working?

This cannot really be called negotiations since this low level guy is only there to 'listen' not provide anything to Iran. Plus this is a one time deal and not some sort of a long drawn out process. Another point is we really don't know the real reason for sending this guy. Perhaps he is going to tell Iran to go screw themselves.

Anyway, I don't like it but he is not going to negotiate.

The interesting thing is the fact that Iran is coming to the table. But I have no illusions, the Iranians will use it as a stalling tactic, and at some point storm out of the meetings with feigned indignation. Typical mideast tactics.

Your bleeding heart wishes that were true.
NK had nukes pointed at it by the US, China, and Russia, with Japan threatening to join the fight against them.

And we were intimidated by some failed missile tests? :shk:

You're a riot.
