Title disputes have haunted the Tulum beach for decades. At the heart of this dispute is whether the hotels were built in a federal park.

This is an interesting story. Tulum is one of the last enclaves on the Mexican Caribbean that hasn't been overrun by glitzy mega resorts. It has recently become a hotspot for eco-tourists looking for an out of the way oasis.

Now the Mexican federal government is taking over, claiming the land is protected and the hotels will eventually be demolished so the area can be returned to its natural state. Those being evicted from property that has been there for decades say the Federales just want the valuable beachfront land for themselves. Guests have pretty much until Friday to pack up and leave.
