Boeing wins key round in Air Force tanker protest

news.yahoo.com

WASHINGTON - Boeing scored a major victory Wednesday in its battle to wrestle back a $35 billion Air Force contract from Northrop Grumman and its European partner.

The Government Accountability Office upheld Boeing's protest of the refueling tanker contract and recommended the service hold a new competition. To be honest im not surprised. The GAO is pretty independant and the AF all but admitted that its metrics used for life cycle costs were flawed. Cue the anti - US rants. This does not mean the deal is dead yet, but its an election year as well

Boeing should be very proud of the fact that they've delayed a desperately needed asset yet AGAIN. This tanker is already YEARS behind schedule, years the USAF can't afford.

However, on the other hand if the USAF hadn't screwed the pooch yet AGAIN on this deal they'd already have them. Just makes me wonder how much longer the -135 can keep its outstanding safety record going. Hopefully long enough to get SOMETHING in the air before they start falling out of the sky.
