Post 9-11 we've seen bumper stickers, t-shirts, coffee mugs, coasters, windsocks, jewelry, cell phone sleeves, every product imaginable stamped with stars and stripes - but not a square.

I'm starting to think that this slow shift from a rectangular flag signifying a nation to vague stars on a banner draped over a field of a few stripes in familiar colors is a precursor to a patchwork flag for the future oppressive regime - separate enough from the American flag to legally represent a different governmental structure, but similar enough so that no American notices 'cause it's put through on the back of something nobody bothers with.

Sort of like the Stars and Bars, but less obvious about their slavery.

Any and all input would be celebrated.

The U.S. flag isn't a square in any case...it's a rectangle. As for why you see a 'fractured' flag, my personal opinion is that someone (or some focus group) thinks it's a powerful and evocative image of a nation in pain, and besides, it sells stuff. I'd lean more toward commercialism than conspiracy on this one...after all, why would "they" want to change the flag at all? Wouldn't that be a blatant announcement that America wasn't what it used to be?

I've haven't see any fractured flags. Do you have a picture of one?
Personally I thought it was just laziness. People make quick junk so that they can sell more of it. But Stormhammer has a point... it's commericalism. It's new... it's edgy just like how they have to keep adding little "upgrades" to old things so that we'll buy it.
As Strormhammer said, commercialism not conspiracy.

I'm sure this is a concept with which everyone here is familiar. My fear is of a similar occurrence.

I was speaking specifically about bumper stickers. Driving home yesterday, I noticed a gigantic semi-truck behind me flying two flags from either side with a giant field of thick stripes and a few stars on airbrushed blue behind it on the grill. As it was looming behind me it struck me (not the truck, the idea) that the man driving that truck would probably consider anything that's red, white, and blue with a star on it an American Flag, regardless of how it's displayed as per the legal codes.

Examples I've found:

As an aside, I'm new around here so I'm not entirely sure how to get images into my posts directly. Sorry

Back to the topic at hand: I understand that these are all just designs, as well, but we're talking about people who get their power from the weight of words and misinterpretation. They can interpret documents to mean whatever they want and if that means conditioning Americans to salute something that vaguely resembles their old flag, after having given that new flag any number of authorities and positions, then they're not above exploiting it.

Not that this is a master plan. More like an afterthought once 9-11 was already in motion.
