How does American mainstream media propaganda work?

This is not the Soviet Union, so the propaganda would most likely be more covert.

The greatest propaganda tool in the mainstream media.

I do not watch mainstream news, so I don't have a clear picture of how it works.

Consider this:

1. How did the media convince people that invading Iraq was a good idea?
2. How come the random average Joe supports McCain?
3. Why does the average Fred think Ron Paul is a dangerous "radical"?
4. Why does the average Sam scorn at the words "conspiracy theory" and "9/11 inside job"?
5. How does the media keep people from examining the 9/11 evidence?
6. Why does the average Joe get offended when I bring up 9/11?
7. Why does the average Joe think 9/11 truthers are little more than terrorists?
8. In general, what messages does the media drive?
9. What techniques does the media use to drive the messages?
10. What techniques (besides 9/11) did the media use to convince the people to give up their constitutional rights? To scorn at the words "Alex Jones"
11. Why does the average Joe willfully resists going on infowars.com?

All the points I brought up are, in one form or another, relevant to the mainstream media.

Bottom line, how does their mainstream media work?

Well to answer your question in the shortest way possible, just like a pyramid. They use the same technique as secret societies, to establish control and information on a need to know basis.

Which techniques? And to achieve which results?
