I came across this Japanese video which shows just how manouverable the LEAP interceptor is which sits atop the US Navy's SM-III anti-ballistic missile missile.

it is pretty cool! good find !

But i question the when it is in action! here we only see left,right,up,down!

How about some circle actions,sharp turns!

When it's in space it will be on the same ballistic trajectory as the incoming warhead so it can achieve a direct impact to destroy it. The thrusters are for last second velocity change/correction to ensure an impact; as such it really does not need to do anything more than move in those four directions.

Why?

Unless your ballistic target is maneuvering (it can't), there is no need to waste energy on maneuvers.

There is a direct relationship between your ability to hit the target and how much maneuvering you do before you get close.

It is pretty small, I think it only weighs about 55lbs. This video shows the size of it.
