Mystery metal ball an outback space oddity

Although he made the discovery in November last year, Mr Stirton waited until Easter to launch his own proper investigation into the object’s origin.

So any other ideas as to what else this junk maybe.
It just looks like a solid carbon wrap, whats the purpose of a carbon wrap that large.
Anyway just some news on what goes up must come down
