Does anyone know if the folks at nasa have been trying to mine outer space? Has Nasa gotten any data on soil composition on the moon, mars, or even saturn's moons?
. Will it one be possible to mine planets, asteroids, and other things?

As a matter of fact, NASA has released the following:
www.nasa.gov...

Saturn's orange moon Titan has hundreds of times more liquid hydrocarbons than all the known oil and natural gas reserves on Earth, according to new data from NASA's Cassini spacecraft. The hydrocarbons rain from the sky, collecting in vast deposits that form lakes and dunes.

The new findings from the study led by Ralph Lorenz, Cassini radar team member from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, Laurel, Md., are reported in the Jan. 29 issue of the Geophysical Research Letters.

"Titan is just covered in carbon-bearing material -- it's a giant factory of organic chemicals," said Lorenz. "This vast carbon inventory is an important window into the geology and climate history of Titan."

There are many Asteroids in the belt that are comprised of various precious metals such as platinum, gold, copper, etc.

As well as some that have rarer elements in them. In all honesty, mining the asteroid belt would probably eliminate a good deal of scarcity on the earth, and do away with Money entirely.

Of course, you have to have someone rich enough and with the cajones to destroy class based society in order to get there.

It would be a while for anyone start mining the asteriods. The planets and their moons. It probably won't happen in the life time of the childreds that are being born today. Unless the Goverment start using their brain. Which they will have to start soon. Or we will be back to using horses and wagons.

the first thing set up from a permanent colony would be a mining operations for fuel at first then branching out to others. Diamonds and minerals yet unknown to us would likely be found, seeing as space has heat pressure and cold all in extremes allowing for new minerals to form also if an astoroid where to get a bit to close to a star and escape, you could find one HUGE dimond from the gravitational forces and extreme heat

Yes it is more then possible. The only thing we need is technology. Once we have that in our hands then we can do whatever we want.

Why wouldn't it be possible? It will just be a while because we have too many problems to put a huge focus on (and money into) cool things.
