A Bad Decision?

So many eyes staring at me.
What do they want?
What are they waiting for?
Hardly patient are they?


Say something damnit. Well?
I remember my throat feeling as it was being crushed. It was agony. Every shallow burned as a limited amount of air crept its way from my Adam’s apple into my lungs. Not a gentle burning, but a harsh, severe burn.

What the hell do you want from me?
I’m not ready for all this.
I wasn’t expecting it.
Tell me what you want me to do.

My legs had frozen and my hands were shaking. I needed to sit down, but there was nowhere to sit. Nowhere I could see anyway. It was just a sea of hollow eyes. All pointing my way.

It was clear that they were a different species to me. Completely different. Different culture. Different expections. Different language.

If I speak in my language will they understand?
Why are you communicating in grunts?
USE WORDS!
DON’T JUST STARE!

There was a line of windows to the right of where I was held to the spot. Some things looked familiar. Trees, blue sky, soft white clouds, grass, concrete even. Yet through the glass – or whatever unbreakable material it was – it all looked different. Perhaps the atmosphere in the room was altering my perception. Could it have been the energy these ‘beings’, for want of better word, were giving out.

I decided I have to say something.

I swallowed hard; the oxygen burning deeper into my lungs.

I’m Mr. Hudson.
I’m your new English Teacher.

I was newly qualified.
I was amongst inner city youths.
I was in my own classroom for the first time.

I was alone in the loneliest place in the world.
I was surrounded by hostile strangers.

What have I done?..
