After watching 4 hours of this on capital hill I thought the congressmen should have asked Clemens this question!! Why after your wife was given a shot of HGH in 2001 by McNamee without your supposed knowledge would you employ this man until 2007??? Why someone didn't ask this is beyond me!! Any thoughts??

I knew something was up when Congressman Ted Poe introduced Clemens and his lawyer Rusty Hardin as his "friends" the other day before they were to speak to the press. An obvious conflict of interest if you ask me. I think a "favor" was asked for by Hardin.

I'd give my reasons as Clemens being a past, current and future big money contributor to certain campaigns. Hell, there has been rumors of Clemens running for office once he quit baseball. This kind of thing will hurt him very badly.

Peace

I was growing frustrated the longer I watched. Clemens should be a politician. They asked him about details of his alleged steroid use, and he gave stories about how he was brought up right, and how his mother did him right, and how these allegations hurt him. That's good in all Roger, but how about answering a question?

McNamee said flat out, "yes" or "no". Roger gave speeches.

How about the case of the nanny? Roger and his lawyers took about a week to hand over the information, and not before they flew her in and "talked" to her.

When he's standing on the front steps of Cooperstown, I'd say "thanks, but no thanks."

you had to wait until the very end before the only real question was asked of Clemens.

why would Macnamee tell the truth about Knoblauch and Pettite and lie about you?

That about sums it up for me.

What I don't understand is how could Clemens, who seems like an intelligent guy, make such a fuss about this as to turn the whole Mitchell Report into a Clemens issue. The entire league must be sending him thank you cards as the onus has been removed from all of baseball and now rests squarely on his shoulders. Bonds is no longer the poster boy for roids. Giambi, Mac, Sosa et al are long forgotten. Instead we have The Rocket and his Ass Abscess.

He repeatedly came across as a liar and a buffoon and all he had to do was answer as short and to the point as possible and the bigger bag'o'scum to his right would've been the focus of all of this.

Let's recap some of his brighter spots.

1. he never discussed HGH with Macnamee. He did discuss it with him after his wife had medical issues over her shot.
2. he never took his wife to a doctor after she complained of issues related to the shot she took
3. no one in his family has ever taken hgh or steroids. oh, wait, my wife did.
4. I didn't know, in advance, that I was in the Mitchell Report. Oh, but I knew enough to send investigators to interview Macnamee.
5. I wasn't at the barbecue. I never went there. I, well, maybe I dropped my family off there before I played golf or went to the stadium.
6. Interviewing the nanny in advance of her interview with the folks from the congressional hearing. Tampering? You betcha.
7. Pettie misremembered. That's a classic. Up there with nobody manipsnates me.

I can't wait to hear his spin after today's grilling.

Next time I'm talking to my father, I'm sure we'll have a good ol' debate on this one. He is a die hard Red Sox fan, and has always been a huge fan of Clemens. Doesn't buy the whole steroid thing because Clemens always pitched from the legs, and guys who use their whole body tend to be strong late into their career.

But after watching this debacle, he's getting exactly what he deserves.

Clemens has topped McGwire for looking like a twit. At least Mark refused to talk, where Roger was arrogant enough to go for it and come across as a bumbling fool.

I'm sick of the whole game today, and even more disgusted with guys like this who are ruining one of the best games on this planet.

The syringes have been turned over to authorities... the ones that are alleged to have been used by a certain trainer on a certain "athlete". They "could" show nothing... but I'm not a forensics person. The world is full of liars, cheats and theives and those accounts are as yet "unsettled." Great "sports" story... why would anyone keep a "dirty" fit around for years? Insurance.

Cheers,

Vic

I don't think the syringes prove much. Which is unfortunate. The blood could of been added at any time, or the steroids could of been added to the blood afterwards. The outcome of these syringes will do very little to impact my opinion, even if it does turn up that it is Roger's blood and illegal steroids.

Yes, it does prove the point of how inept the "investigation" is... and/or was intended to be... very United States of America; a nice entertaining diversion. It looks attractive on their supporters both cons and pros. They are genuises aren't they? LOL. Hilarious. Baseball a sport? Maybe in Japan, Cuba or Korea. US government "investigate". Hahahahahaha. "Funny" as the day is long. Liars and cheats abound... in many places.

Cheers,

Vic

the "evidence" is useless. chain of custody issues mainly. it wouldn't be of much use other than, perhaps, a means to scare Clemens into admitting it and that clearly didn't happen.

what I'm wondering is, did Hardin ever explain to Clemens the whole jail thing with regards to perjury?

Don't know much about raging congressman Dan Burton of Indiana but I'd hate to think he was influenced by the almighty dollar on Roger's endless trip of meeting everyone!! MAkes you wonder though!! Influence peddling is still alive and well possibly!! It'll be interesting to see if anything else comes out. I'm thinking the evidence stashed by McNamee as Crakeur stated has a lot of issues! I was always a big fan of the Bill James abstract and always remember his data stating that most players peak at 29-32 years of age in MLB. I've always heard a guys head gets a lot bigger and the hair recedes after doing the roids/hgh also!! Anyone with any knowledge of his hat size early in his career and later in his career would be interesting!

some congress women did ask clemens this right before they took their break. He said he was a very forgiving and trusting person. and she said well you will be going to heaven. some of the analysts took shot's at her for her supposed backing of clemens, but i took as a sarcastic remark toward him.

Also in the court of public opinion Roger is predominantly guilty.

exhibit A is a poll. question 2 asks who's story do you believe more? 78% say Macnamee sorry for the long link

took out link it is on espn.com front page under vote the link was so long it distorted the page

but the needles will not be admissible evidence and it will come down to testimony from petitte (i think) if they take clemens to task (court) i'm am anxious to read the rest of the players depositions that are being released.

But like i said he is guilty in the court of public opinion and his lawyers made a bone head move, they though that Clemens insisting on having this hearing would convince everyone of his innocence (b/c other wise why would he do it?) i think they bet wrong, especially when he was doing all that public squirming. Andy Petitite should have been there. Perhaps he did misunderstand him. However if he did, this does not clear clemens, and if he didn't that would have buried him, in the court of public opinion that is.

also rep davis wanted to kiss clemens behind and much more, it was funny. The biggest feat is that the congress has a lower rating than Bush and that this has been the case even in economic "good times"

This is what I would ask,

Why were you so fat and out of shape in the 1996 season. This was your contract year, and besides from your 20 K game you sucked. Only to get in shape the following year for a divison rival.

You want to know the question I would ask Roger Clemens???

How could you ever had considered that little weasle Andy Pettit you friend. I'm suprised that it didn't come out that Pettit's testimony backed up that Clemens was responsible for Balco, the Black Soxs throwing the Series, and the War between Christians and Muslims, as well.
