Casting Call! Fullmetal Alchemist!!!

If any of you used to collect Wizard magazine, then you should remember the comic book movie casting call! This was always a fun section of the magazine for me, so I have decided to create a few of my own.

Now, these movies are NOT actual movies in the works, just who I would cast if I were to direct it. At the end I’ll link my other casting call threads…

Feel free to let me know if you agree or disagree with my decisions!

If you disagree, who would you want to play that role and why?
If I left some important characters out, then add them!

Now I’m going to change things up a little and add Anime to the mix!
I’m gonna keep it in the comics forum since these anime also have manga books, but if the Mods feel it should be moved to Television, go right ahead!

Ok here goes!

Casting Call #5: Fullmetal Alchemist!!!

Edward and Alphonse Elric are gifted in the art of alchemy, but they soon learn their limits when they attempt to resurrect their mother. This costs Edward an arm and a leg and take the entire body of his little brother, Al, who is know bound to a huge suit of armor. Outfitted with new metal limbs, Ed and Al set out to find the Philosopher’s Stone, the only thing that can restore them. Source

One of the best Anime shows in a while, Full Metal Alchemist, now makes it to BTS with its very own Casting Call!

This one should prove exciting, and since there are so many characters in it, I’m gonna leave it to YOU guys to finish the casting.

So let’s get started!

First, I’m going to start with Maes Hughs!
Maes Hughes (sometimes spelled as Mäes) is a member of the Investigations Division and was good friends with Colonel Mustang. At the time of his introduction in the anime, Hughes held the rank of Major, and first met the Elrics while serving as a communications officer for General Hakuro.


So who can play this fun and charming Lieutenant Colonel?
For obvious reasons, I’m casting this part to Ryan Reynolds!

Not only is Reynolds the right age to play Maes, his subtle but hysterically funny jokes definitely land him this role. And we all know he’s tuff too, so its not hard to imaging how he made his way to the ranks of Lieutenant colonel.

Next on the list we have Riza Hawkeye!

Riza Hawkeye is the most trusted in Mustang's circle of friends and his right-hand woman and body guard. In her own words, Hawkeye has joined the military because "there is someone I need to protect," that is, Roy Mustang.

For someone to land this role, they have to be sexy, smart, and career driven…
Making Scarlet Johanson the perfect candidate for this role!

Not only is Scarlet that girl next door type of sexy, she’s played both serious and action thrilling roles in movies such as The Island and The Prestige!

Next up, we need someone to tackle the role of the giant, Alex Louis Armstrong!

Alex Louis Armstrong, the Strong Arm Alchemist, was born into an elite family of alchemists and has mastered his family's techniques. Members of his family have, in the past, filled the highest military and political positions in the state. He acquired his alchemy titles for his skill of using arm strength in his alchemy.

For this role, which doesn’t require much acting (heck, his acting in the show is borderline at best), all we need is a brute… and an older one at that…
Based on this, I’m choosing a classic…
Arnold…

I already explained why I picked him, and we all saw how ripped he looked in T3… so I’m sure with a little working out he could pull it off.

Now let’s cast the most popular guy in the military, Colonel Mustang!

Holding the title of the Flame Alchemist, he is a skilled State Alchemist who ambitiously strives to become the next leader of Amestris.

The actor who plays Colonel Mustang must be serious. Mustang isn’t that funny, but he did make it to the top for a reason… he kicks butt…
For this role, I’m choosing Eric Bana!

He’s played both serious and kick a$$ characters in Munich and Troy, not to mention he’s about the right age for a colonel… with a little movie magic at least…

Now let’s get into the more interesting cast!

Winny Rockbell!

Winry Rockbell is one of the main characters in the Fullmetal Alchemist series by Hiromu Arakawa. A childhood friend of the central characters, the Elric brothers, she is often seen in their company throughout the series. Specializing in mechanical repair, specifically with automail, Winry services Edward's arm and leg whenever it is in need of repair or replacement.

This cutie is just that, a cutie. Sure sometimes she gets some handy metalworking done, but for the most part, she’s just there to be cute…
With that being said, I’m casting Jessica Alba for Winry.

Why? She can’t act? You’re absolutely right… and I don’t need to justify it past sacrificing her acting abilities for her looks…

I know you guys have been waiting for this one!
Scar!

Scar is an Ishbalan, a religious people who take their name from the god they worship, Ishballa. In particular, the art of alchemy (known to Ishballans as the "Grand Arcanum") was considered one of the greatest taboos of Ishballan culture (as it implies that humans can better upon God's creations). Scar's elder brother Mattias broke this taboo by attempting the most dangerous form of alchemy, human transmutation, in an attempt to resurrect the deceased woman that both he and Scar had loved.

Scar now wields his brother’s right arm…


Well, I know I’m going out on a limb here because he is a little too old to play the part… but I’ve been wanting to use him in a casting call and haven’t been able to yet, hope you guys are ok with this choice… if not, feel free to cast someone else…
Daniel Craig ladies and gentlemen!

Craig has proved himself to be the torn hero in both Layer Cake and Casino Royal, proving him to be a fantastic actor with a lot to offer.

Second to last on this casting call is the younger Elric Brother, Alphonse!

He is a human child who lost his body during an alchemic experiment to bring his deceased mother back to life, and had his soul transmuted into a suit of armor by his brother, Edward Elric.

So, who’s going to play Alphonse Elric?
That’s easy:

A computer graphic design program and the same voice as the show IMO.

So now to our final casting, Edward Elric!

Edward Elric is a young alchemical prodigy. He is the youngest State Alchemist to be selected by the Amestris State Military, having passed the State Alchemy Exam and achieved the rank of Major at age twelve. The course of events that led to this extraordinary accomplishment included the tragic death of his mother and a failed transmutation that plays a key role in his story. Edward's motivation stems from a love for his brother Alphonse, who he is desperately trying to return to a human form.

Well, we need a younger actor who can rock a pony tail and be in some serious fight scenes…
That’s a tuff thing to find…
In fact, I can’t think of anyone!!!
I’m going to leave the MAIN CHARACTER FOR YOU TO DECIDE!!!

That’s right; I need your help to cast the MAIN CHARACTER!

Well that concludes my casting, but it’s far from over!
I wanna know what you guys would change!
And most importantly, WHO TO PLAY THE MAIN CHARACTER??? EDWARD???

How about Haley Joel Osmet - he is a bit on the older teenage side, but he's got the longer, blonde air and a very similar voice, too...

You would not necessarily need to have a younger kid with a pony tail for Edward Elric.

I nominate Dominic Janes. Why? Because I find them both equally annoying, and equally short. Both have played a character that's been hit in the hand with a fork, and both have had an anti-vaccination episode.

Get that hair blonde, and maybe grow it a bit, and you've got yourself a nominee.

Oh, and for Al, I think the original Mac OS "talk to me" voice would be good. Anyone remember Blank Check? "Al and Ed sleep butt to face...butt to face..."
