Britons 'richer than Americans'

news.bbc.co.uk

The average UK person will this year have a greater income than their US counterpart for the first time since the 19th Century, figures suggest.

Analyst Oxford Economics said the UK's GDP per head of population will reach £23,500 - £250 higher than in the US.

However, because goods and services are cheaper in the US, Americans will have stronger purchasing power, it added.

So we now have one of the highest GDP in the world, but does it make any difference?

Goods and services are considerably cheaper in the US, and we pay tax on everything, so the figures don't necessarily mean what they look like.

Disposable income would seem to be the key here - and I'm guessing that US citizens have more - by the time we in the UK have finished paying inflated prices for power, gas, fuel, food, entertainment, mortgage etc with VAT, not to mention council tax, road tax, fuel duty etc etc I bet we have less disposable income.
