Just a couple of quick things...

A few years ago, my Mum's friend said she saw me in town, but I ignored her. I wasn't in town that day, and it's very doubtful I'd have ignored her.

I'm fairly distinctive looking (Tall, red hair and glasses) and there have been a few times (even friends in different countries) that people thought they had seen me. Although, I would say they saw people whom merely looked like me.

Just the other day a friend of mine "found" a porn film with a girl in that looks very very much like me, and he didn't believe it wasn't (I can guarantee it wasn't - my nose is much prettier)

I suppose my point is that people might tend to pick out characteristics of people (ie similar eyes and hair) and in a fleeting moment, your brain could fill in the blanks, to make you think it was someone you knew. In my case, because I'm quite distinctive, I guess people associate me with red hair and glasses, so seeing others with red hair and glasses reminds them of me.

Heike, using your descriptions, I would say that mine was your number 3, the persistent doppleganger, and I still receive alerts from contacts across the US who have run into him. Most of my overseas contacts have fallen by the wayside in recent years, so I do not know if he still interacts with them in any way as well. I can say though that most of the sensitives who have encountered him have known almost immediately that at the very least something was very wrong, even if they didn't know what it was at first.

I believe that most people simply see someone who is close in appearance, which is not particularly uncommon, but on close examination, these people are usually visibly recognizable as being different. They also aren't the ones who try to pass themselves off as you, other than the occasional con man.

As for the spirit/OOBE/ghost/etc, I think this is probably going to be the more common of the supernatural ones. These are the kind of stories that usually wind up being either harmless or some kind of warning about the person whose double you're viewing. Those kinds of things usually seem to happen when the person is in some kind of peril, if I recall.

Good to see more people taking an interest in this topic again.

Back in 98 I was sat having a beer in Christiania, Copenhagen, I looked over from where I was sitting and I saw my deceased dad’s doppelganger (if that's possible).

It was not my dad exactly, the doppelganger in question was a bit of a drunk, you know scraggy hair, shaggy clothes, large bottle of strong alcohol in one hand, but it was definatly my dad. I even said to my friend who was with me "that guy over there looks exactly like my dad" but he did not have that good a memory of my farther to be able to concur. But it was though, for however strange it seemed, my dad.

Its interest though that some believe you are more likely to see a doppelganger in northern Europe.

Tinhatman, no wonder you call yourself Tinhatman. Freaky. Even freakier twist put on it by Heike. Imagine that.

Supposedly I have a doppleganger named Paul. At my college 3 or so people have all come up to me and started talking to me. Funny thing is they all thought I was Paul. I would have to interrupt them and go "I am not Paul" at which point they'd argue that I was until I had to walk away. Funny thing is there is no one registered as the Paul they claim I am at my school.

My doppleganger is the evil twin :-( She looks exactly like me, dresses like me, smells like me, talks like me. We went to the same school. We were apparently the same major, although for some reason we never had any similar classes. Now she lives in the same city, works in the same area, and drives the car I had for years (until a couple months ago. Haven't heard if she has another car).

Everyone who meets her reports that, while she says nothing, exudes an aura of "mean" (all have actually used that "witch with a b" word). She freaked out a former landlord so much, I nearly got kicked out of my apartment.

I saw her once. Knew immediately that it had to be her, she was identical to me, down to the hairstyle/ color and clothes I was wearing that day. After hearing the stories I wanted nothing more to meet her. Ya know, compare stories, see if she got the same kind of thing. I wanted to meet her, but I could not. For some reason, as I tried to walk towards her there was some physical force that literally would not allow me to deviate towards her. She actually looked up as I was struggling to get to her, and when our eyes met, I involuntarily took a left turn away from her.

I never thought about her as a doppleganger before - I firmly believe she is human and not some evil spirit that roams about. Still very creepy, and the thought of that one almost-encounter still leaves me with a very uncomfortable feeling in the pit of my stomach.

great topic i must say,now i'll share a quick story with you guys if you dont mind.when i was a young child living in our present house i would alyways love sundays because it was a time my aunty would bring my favorite cousin around.this cousin had 1 brother & 2 sisters,so 4 kids all up anyway one day whislt waiting for them,i walked down to the gate,to see if they were coming & sure enough they were,i ran inside to tell my mother & was inside for about 10 minutes & when i ran back down back to the gate to greet them they were no where to be seen, thinking this weird & hoping that i didnt miss them,i got my mums permissions to phone them up,i dont know why i phoned them i just had an urge to.so needless to say i was shocked when my aunty answered & went on to tell me that her & the children hadnt even left the house yet because her washing machine broke down. i am an adult now & that still kinda sticks with me.
