That radar you are seeing is the snow storm bearing down on SE Michigan as we speak.
Promising to give us 6-10 inches of snow by mid-day New Years Day.

At this point in time (midnight), it looks to be over NW Wyoming and looks like an upside down fan. Flashes about every 4 seconds and is in shades of blue. No movement to or from any direction ... isolated storm?

Happy New Year

Yes, that's similar, if only 1/3 of what I saw.
I think I managed to capture it

here.

I noticed the fan on the radar image near Montana. I don't know if there are any radar experts on here or not. If you email a local meteorologist in Montana and he sees the image or you know a meteorologist, he might know what causes images like that. I suspect there is a reasonable radar explanation for the fan image.

I think I remember seeing some local radar images that showed some similiar patterns. I believe they were picking up everything in the sky including bugs and ground clutter. Please post back if you find anything interesting.

It's a common glitch - I see similar effects all the time with the UK rainfall radar (often over Ireland, for some reason), not sure exactly what causes it but it is quite common over here.

Clearskies,

I was just checking back to see if the 'fan' had moved and caught you 'full circle' over south central Mantana. It was in the 0 to -25 colors. I came here to post ... went back to copy it and it was gone!

Sorry I'm not faster or more knowledgeable on how to do this.
