While he says the Japanese government has no proof of the existence of UFO's, he also claims that the Japanese government is not actiively pursuing proof.

This first official announcement on the UFO subject was brought up by an opposition lawmaker who wanted the government to try to prove the existence of UFO's.

In ohter articles it said the spokesman said this tongue in cheek with laughter following the announcement, so if there are any Japanese members who may have caught this on TV and can add to this story it would be appreciated.

I am not sure if this is serious or not, or just a jab at an opposition party member.
