Prosecuting kids as adults: Some states ponder changes

www.usatoday.com

A generation after America decided to get tough on kids who commit crimes — sometimes locking them up for life — the tide may be turning.

States are rethinking and, in some cases, retooling juvenile sentencing laws. They're responding to new research on the adolescent brain, and studies that indicate teens sent to adult court end up worse off than those who are not: They get in trouble more often, they do it faster and the offenses are more serious.

Interesting to say the least. You know it seems to me these blanket laws we have are Not working, we need laws that deal with the individual crime, or circumstances.

Despite the studies people are going to fight against this. I think they not only need to change this, but the whole way we make and enforce our laws needs to be changed, put the power back into the judges hands to judge. Wow what a concept.

Who would have ever thought that locking kids up forever would make them violent towards society? This is a strange new world we live in. Pretty soon they'll start saying that instead of arbitrary punishment we should look into the reasons why people commit crimes. What a day that will be. EVERYONE knows that criminals commit crimes because they are born bad and Jesus doesn't love them.
