I wonder if its too little too late. While its a worthwile effort, perhaps more resources should be focusd on preserving the rainforests as well.

NAIROBI (AFP) - More than one billion trees were planted around the world in 2007, with Ethiopia and Mexico leading in the drive to combat climate change through new lush forest projects, a UN report said Wednesday.

The Nairobi-based UN Environment Programme (UNEP) said the mass tree planting, inspired by Nobel Peace laureate Wangari Maathai, will help mitigate effects of pollution and environmental deterioration.

A problem with planting trees though is that they actually give off more Co2 than take in for a while. Not sure how long for.

I also thought that thier locations is also an issue. Planted higher in the hemisphere it can actually increase the rate of global warming or something

Yeah I heard that before too. Apparently in the alps they cover rocks or snow in white sheets of something or another to reflect teh heat and stop the snow from melting. I wonder why we can't cover roofs in white tiles instead of brown, or some areas in the arctic with white sheets, maybe on rafts or something. /random idea.
