As he left a cozy business-breakfast in Paris, former D.S. Donald Rumsfeld was welcomed by european activists shouting "Criminel ! Assassin !"...

The Fédération internationale des ligues des droits de l'homme (FIDH - International Federation for Human Rights), the Ligue française pour la défense des droits de l'homme et du citoyen (LDH - French League for Human Rights), the New-York-based Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), the Berlin-based European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) actually filed a legal complaint against Rumsfeld at the Paris prosecutor's office on thursday.

The complaint claims that Rumsfeld as Defense Secretary "authorized and ordered crimes of torture to be carried out (...) as well as other war crimes."

Memos from Rumsfeld, internal reports and testimony from former U.S. Army B.G. Janis Karpinski — former commander of U.S. military prisons in Iraq — are cited in the complaint.

Paris prosecutor is also requested to open an inquiry and take Rumsfeld into custody.

North-America doesn't seem to loudly relay these very news. May you ATS fellows bravely spread the word...

Do they still have any functional guillotines laying about in some dusty basement? A little rust on the blade never hurt nobody. A pre-emptive tetanus shot would be proferred.

By law, French law enforcement are obliged to follow up on these filed charges so Rummy better get outta dodge, although I expect he's probably already done so. In fact if I remember correctly, under European law he can be pursued through any member state, so perhaps he'd better get out of Europe completely

That Uruguayan ranch the Bush's are building better have a few spare guest rooms, I think they are going to be needed.

Sarkozy - who aims to confirm France as the last but not the least State of Neocon America - has already proven that his general policie is to cover everybody who serves his reign. Even if France is grounded since the Révolution upon the very separation between the executive and the judicial, the Jacques Attali case among others showed that the Republiktator don't care...
