NEWS:Large explosion in port kembla, sydney

There has been a large Gas explosion on jetty six in port kembla, near sydney.
The explosion injured one man (56 yrs old) who has been taken to the emergency dept. of wooloongong hospital, for minor burns and injuries and is in a stable condition.

initial reports were that the tank that exploded was a 100 000 litre oil tank but recent reports are that it is a 7 milion litre ethanol tank.

firefighter's are on the scene and are fighting to take control of the blaze.

this is obviously not the work of terrorists, but i thought it was newsworthy.

hopefully the injured man recovers fully, and they get the blaze under control, more information as i get it.

Fuel tank burning out of control

EMERGENCY services are tending a blaze in a seven-million-litre ethanol tank that exploded this morning south of Sydney.

there is now live reports on skynews australia.

it is unknown how the fire started.

from the helicopter shots you can see small spot fires around the tank. and you can see the tank slowly buckling (probably from the intial explosion which was heard kilmeters away.

according to the NSW fire brigde the blaze is undercontrol but will take hours to extinguish

they have set up a zone for 200-500 meters around the buisiness.

there are 2 or 3 other tanks in close proximity, but they are not under immediate danger.

possibly one person missing

as of 1 pm (AEDST) the situation is as follows

1 injured, possibly 1 missing.
fire crews from port kembla and sydney are fighting the blaze

foam is on the way from sydney to help put out the fires.

the surounding tanks are being cooled down with water so they dont ingnite.

this will take hours to put out.

i will keep updating with any major developements.
