Basic training. No prob.
AIT, aced it.
Now, I'm a full-fleged Tank Turret Mechanic.

Jesus, these Army guys are stupid.
Never even held a screw-driver before
their training.
And, I'm gonna fix tanks. Right.

Pretty cool, I'm going to my base on a C-130.
God, I love flying !

Not sure why I have a full ruck, duffle and
an M-16. I kinda thought we were going to
Ft. Polk.

Jesus, long-ass flight. I awoke to a cargo drop.
Rather impressive, and a great view.

Green light on, landing soon.
I'm given 3 full clips, live.
Two more boxes of rounds.
Ok, what gives ?

We land hot. Never ran so fast. Concrete shattered
makes some odd noises.

Some dump that used to be airport. (I think)
This Major walks up. I go to Attention and salute.

"At ease, son. You're going with Sgt. Smith. "
Ok. Great war-game. I'll play along.

Some guy yells "INCOMING !".
I hear this unreal whistle.
About a third of the building becomes rubble.

I lock and load.

Fear. Odd concept.
Fear breeds this strange thing in a person.
The will to live.

After a few hours of fun, I roll into the back
of a deuce. I look at the same Major.
I ask, where the F*** am I ??

He smiles, sadly.

Home.
Son, you are home.

Regards,
Lex

Lex with just a few descriptive words you've almost taken us to the place where you were. I know we could never really know unless we were there but you take us pretty close.

Nice writing!

Ditto with "You have all my due respect Lex."
Few words that say more, then some will ever
experience in a lifetime. I appreciate the information.
Keep writing so more will learn what a Soldier must endure.
Thank-you.

I'd like to thank ya'll for
the positive responses.

It's rare for me to discuss
my military past, but this
just came natural.

Again,
Thank you.

The truth is always scarier than fiction.

Had to re-read it a few times to let it sink in, after reading the 'it's real' comments.

At a loss for words really.
