The private army in our backyard, Blackwater USA, Tool of the Neocons's?

Blackwater USA which has managed untill recently was just a name to many Americans, has been thrust into the national spotlight. The company whic is try to open a US training base in San Diego after being denied permission to do so in the Phillipines is owned by one Erik Prince. prince is a major Republican contributor. He an his wife donated over 260,000 since 1989.

Many of the committee’s questions were directed at Blackwater USA, which has not contributed to any committee members between 2003 and 2006, but whose founder, Erik Prince, is a major Republican donor. Together, Prince and his wife have contributed $263,150 since 1989, nearly all of it to Republicans and conservative PACs.

Blackwater is eyeing a training facility in California. this would give them bases of operation on both coasts and the midwest (North Carolina, Chicago, and possible San Diego). Will we see Blackwatrer goons partolling San Francisco and Los Angeles after a big quake much like they did In New Orleans?

This paints quite a scary picture. the firm seems to be operating above the law in iraq. Do we really want them on our soil? The fact that so much money is heading the Republican way and its really skewed towards ultra conservative candidates and the founders themselves also have a neoconish agenda. I hope that for once congress gets off its collective duff and actually do something about this potiential mencace.

War means "job security" for Blackwater does'nt it? The longer they stay in Iraq, the longer it's gonna take to get anything accomplished over there.

Don't count on congress doing ANYTHING but voting them pay raises and continuing to ignore the bigger picture. Reminds me of a metallica song, sad but true. Blackwater is a new name to me, just heard it on news for first time today. How is blackwater even allowed to operate in such manner? Are they a us based company? Also, since I'm joining army (in a week) should I join them instead? I do not want a M16, even though I'll be MP in non-combat (I cant see combat I'm single child) its most unreliable gun on planet, I hate to squeeze trigger and have nothing happen, then furthermore have to pull out berreta, another unreliable mechanism. Well, if they seem as evil company as they are I shouldn't join then, lol.

I hope Congress really sticks it to Blackwater, but they probably won't. These private security firms are a real problem.

War, or contrived war makes strange bedfellows. Huge 'contributions' to political players amuses me. Halliburton went offshore recently. It is such a contrived game they play at the expense of trillions of American taxdollars. Soon I'll be stuffing dollars to cover the holes in my shoes.

I mean... Take the name itself. Blackwater. What average person, just hearing that, would think its a private bush army. NO ONE. Good name choice bw...

Why spend all that money on army, navy, airforce, coastguard etc and then employ a private contractor to do the same job? I read in many threads about how there are 2 million people in the US forces (-minus 160,000 in Iraq) so why don't they just use a few more of these to these jobs, or recruit more, or train others to do different things?

Been as most of these mercs have been trained by the US government anyway, perhaps they should ask themselves why they can't retain them in the forces. The fact that they get paid $1000 a day (or whatever) is only a sign that a market exists. Stop the market and these mercs will soon either be off somewhere else or begging on the streets talking about how they are vets.

The only reasons I can see for using private contractors are either to avoid oversight, using the contract as a 'firewall of blame' or to just make money for someones friends. Either way it is dodgy as hell.
