At the time the US military was preparing the war on Iraq, Cuban spies we actively providing Saddam's intelligence service with information. The reports stated that Cuban intelligence, which is known to have extensive "coverage" of U.S. military bases, supplied information to Saddam's intelligence service on the movement of troops and other military activities.

If this proves to be true, it does not bode well for Fidel Castro.

There are many people in the US, even many conservatives, that think that our policy of embargo and isolation of Cuba has gone on long enough, and that the only way to bring them around will be to open up trade.

However, if these facts are correct, I see it as fresh ammunition for the Bush administration to rachet up the pressure on Havana, instead of loosening it. Fidel better watch his back.

Bush wouldn't dream of threatening Cuba until after the elections. He would lose his precious Latino vote if he did.

However, if he gets re-elected, put Cuba on the short list of countries that are gonna get attacked.

Whenever I go to Cuba, I'm always astounded at how much your average Cuban thinks the US is a laughingstock. Not just over the whole Helms-Burton fiasco, but over US policy towards Cuba as a whole.

Cuba can do whatever the hell it wants to. If it wants to feed Iraq info about US bases, it can. Why? Because it's a sovereign country and it can do what it likes.

NOT helping the US is good for Cuba, and they know it. So blame yourselves.

Cuban spies gave sensetive info to Saddam. A few days before the war started Saddam's men stole millions, if not billions of dollars from the national bank and fled.

It's quite likely that information provided by Cuban spies made them do this bank robbery succesfully. They had time enough to make it to the Syrian border.

Cuba isn't a threat to the US, but Saddam was a big threat to the Iraqi people...

I certainly hope that this: "the CIA had no information about it" is wrong.

1. The Midwestern Republican members of Congress would jump ship if that action was brought up for a vote. Why? We have a multi-billion market potential in Cuba for the corporate Agro-Businesses that put in those politicians. They have been the most vocal in reppealing those restrictions.

2. Radical South Florida Cuban - the expatriot community won't ever stop hating Fidel, but they are losing influence the more the old guard dies off. Some more progressive young leadership in that community sees the way to 'no-Fidel' being much quicker through the wealth of Cubans, who then have cause to let an economic revolution take place.

3. The largest minority group in the US is Latino. And while there are very thick lines between the group along nation of origin, they all would universally condemn an attack against a Latin Sovereign nation.

Why would we need to start a War with Cuba and attack Fidel because he shared some information??

I'm pretty sure when it is all said and done, other countries (with anti-american sentiments) also shared information with Saddam...(saudi arabia, syria, jordan, lebanon, France perhaps??) what are we gonna do? Go and attack everyone who ever dealt with Saddam? Just think though if Iraq was innocent in the WMD's and others who dealt with Saddam knew that, why wouldn't they think it would be okay to share info? It's not like they were able to stop the attacks or even put up a strong resistance?

if that is the thinking, then there are lots of other countries that would take priority over Cuba.
America's biggest gripe with Cuba is that Fidel is not willing to conform to our brand of democracy, and it irks us because he is in our backyard.
