MEMRI November 26, 2002
In the first statement of its kind, a senior Iraqi official confirmed that his country is not ruling out the possibility of using weapons of mass
destruction to defend the regime. His statements were published in a lead article in today's London-based Arabic-language daily Al-Quds Al-Arabi,
which is known to support Saddam Hussein. (1) The articles title stated that Iraqi sources do not rule out the possibility of using chemical weapons
to defend the regime. The following are excerpts from the article:
"A senior Iraqi official who refused to reveal his name said that the Iraqi regime would defend its existence and its reputation. The Iraqi official
said unequivocally: 'When the regime was under intense attack in Al-Fau and began to be under threat, it did not hesitate to use all the weapons of
mass destruction in its possession. Similarly, when the people of Halabja, or some of them, became guides for the Iranian forces that tried to breach
the northeast [front], the regime did not hesitate to use chemical weapons.' Therefore, 'do not expect us to stand idly by in the face of any
aggression that seeks to destroy and banish us not only from the regime but also from life."

That will be a bad idea for them. The U.S. and G.B. equipped and trained for years to fight in an NBC environment, fully expecting the Soviets to use
all sorts of wicked and vile agents. I'd imagine we'll fair much better in such conditions than his own troops will.
I pray that idiot doesn't attck Israel with such agents just to create chaos.

Anonymous source, a publication discredited in the past, and published in London where- no doubt- "senior Iraqi officials" are to be seen
congregating everywhere and enjoying the Christmas shopping!
Other than a very hamfisted way of pre-judging inspections " they must have these weapons or why would they talk about using them?", this is
pretty desperate stuff.

"Al Quds" incidentally is Arabic for Jerusalem -make of that what one will.
This is the same source that has a regular pen-pal in UBL and another in Qaddafi and "broke the news" when UbL allegedly declared jihad against
America.
It also told us in July that UbL would nnever appear on video again until another major act had been committed in the USA - so obviously the UbL
tape-fakers don't read it often enough.
Not a source to be credited except as a sort of twisted indicator of how people are meant to be manipulated at any one time. Only available in Arabic
so that helps the manipulators in the Western media.
