Ok, heres a recipe for a simple pie floater.
whats a pie floater? its a south aussie heritage icon thats really only sold in South Oz. even interstater's have to try one when they arrive in
SA
pie floater on south Oz heritage list
ingredients:
good quality meat pie
a tin of green peas (including liquid in the tin)
a pinch of salt
(tin peas + pinch of salt can be substituted for any good thick grean pea soup, but NOT crappy tinned pea + ham soup or other similar soups)
pour the entire can of processed minted peas into a saucepan (including the liquid the peas are in)
get potato masher, and *gently* press down on the peas a bit so they break open. you dont want to turn it to mush, but a little bit of mush makes the
soup thicker and tastier.
add pinch of salt and cook until the peas are boiling in a nice thick pea soup (usually about 5mins)
get pre-heated meat pie and put it into a bowl *upside down* (makes it easier to cut + eat in the soup)
pour pea soup over and around the meat pie, add a squirt of tomato sauce (ketchup to you yank's) and enjoy with a spoon.
pie is put in the bowl upside down so teh crispy top is at the bottom, making it easier to cut into the pie. if left up the right way it'll be harder
to cut into and possibly flip over, flicking green pea soup all over your clothes
heres a nice looking floater that wikipedia prepared earlier
cheers
