Khadr lawyer 'harassed' after visit with client

www.thestar.com

Omar Khadr's Canadian lawyer says a three-day visit to Guantanamo Bay included harassment by U.S. customs agents and a search of his private notes at the military prison.

Dennis Edney was on his way home Saturday from a visit with Khadr at the U.S. detention centre in Cuba when his military flight stopped at a small Fort Pierce, Fla., airport to refuel.

*snip*

He was then brought to a separate room where everything was removed, including the business cards in his wallet.

Please read the sourced material. What was done to this lawyer was unconscionable. Whatever Khadr may or may not be guilty of(and the source indicates that a military judge dismissed the charges), client/solicitor privilege was not only violated, the lawyer's personal rights were violated.

I guess you can't outrun the wrong arm of the law.

I am miffed by the legal treatment of detainees at Guantanamo Bay . After 9-11 an war was launched against the free worlds enemy's and yet when enemy combatants are captured they are treated like criminals rather then an variation of POW treatment. The treatment of Omar Khadr's lawyer reflects this inconsistency.
IMO there needs to be an international convention that dictates the humane treatment of captured enemy combatants but also allows them to be detained for as long as they are considered to be an threat.

We cant afford to have threats to national or global security released because of legal technicalities.
