It seems that modest consumption of dark chocolate can reduce blood pressure. A recent German study found a small reduction in systolic blood pressure (Thats the top number and represents the peak pressure that is achieved by your heart contracting) and thus reduce stroke risk etc. As noted, this is not a blanket okay to go pig out

new German study suggests that eating a small amount of dark chocolate every day could lower blood pressure without increasing weight or other health risks.

The study is published in today's issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

Other studies have already suggested that eating large amounts of foods rich in cocoa can lower blood pressure. This is thought to be because of the polyphenols in the cocoa, a group of beleficial plant chemicals that includes flavanols.

That's great! Question - doesn't chocolate have Oxalates - which help cause some types of kidney stones?

I wonder if someone trades reducing blood pressure but increasing chance of kidney stones????

Anyone know?
