UK car show "Top Gear" ran a similar survey a couple of years ago.

I'd like to ask ATS members what their favourite driving song is - something that gets your fingers tapping the wheel every time - or just a song that reminds you of a great trip.

Personal fave would have to be:

Jamiroquai - Travelling Without Moving.

Absolute classic to blow down the highway at ludicrous speeds to.

Kickstart My Heart - Motley Crue

It's guaranteed you'll step on the accelerator.

Edit: Oh, and of course I can't get no satisfaction by the Stones.

Exhibit A:

I love it when the guy falls into the pulveriser.

Peace

Those or the grade A, Judas Priest has number of inferior road songs for those fellow metal fans. Space Truckin' from Deep Purple is also great.

Good call Dr. Love.

Kickstart My Heart and Travelling Without Moving have the same uncanny characteristics. They just make me want to drive faster.

Indeed.

I do not drive, however when my hubby and I had our motorcycle I always wanted him to blast "Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins.

Those are on my road trip mix tape. Along with Children of the Sun, Lunatic Fringe, Gimmie Shelter, Sympathy for the Devil, Spirit in the Sky, Shine (Collective Soul), Twilight Zone (Golden Earring), Ah Leah, 867-5309, Wild Thing, Rumble (Link Wray), Hey Joe (Hendrix), and some other stuff which escapes me at the moment.

Matter of fact, we're leaving on a mini-trip to Cincinnati tomorrow AM. The tape will be blaring.

I have to agree -- at least in part -- with Intrepid.

Golden Earring's "Radar Love" is, in my opinion, the best driving song ever!

There you are, you have a nice stretch of highway ahead of you. The way is clear. The highway has just enough traffic to allow the "joy of passing". Just enough curves to let you "feel the road" beneath your wheels. The miles seem to melt away when Radar Love blares through your speakers and the words of the song seem to emulate the very sensation of driving.

The wheels on the bus go round and round. Now that's a driving song. Before you know it ya doing 20 in a 30 zone and screamin at the top of your lung "oooopen and shut, oooopen and shut!"

Happy days people!

Intepid, you hit the nail on the head, sir. Radar Love is the best driving song ever recorded, IMO. The beat is perfect for cruising along at about 55-60 mph and the drum solo is an absolute killer. Good call.

Now, I will reveal my 2nd favorite driving song of all time, which is, "Running Down A Dream" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Try it out the next time you're on the road, you'll see. Oh, and the loss of the drum solo on Radar Love is more than made up for by the guitar solo by guest lead guitarist Jeff Lynne.
