Citing terrorist "chatter" becoming more generalized, the Terror Alert Level is expected to be lowered from orange to yellow within the next week. The Department of Homeland Security raised the alert level on Dec 21 in response to specific threats centering around the holiday season.

After cancelling and delaying international flights and scouring major cities with Geiger counters and bio-weapon detectors, no concrete evidence of a terrorist plot has been released to the public. The New Year's holiday in many cities saw security tighter than ever before; the festivities carried on without any problems.

There has indeed been a rather sudden silence on many Jihadist websites, which is the likely cause of the decision to move back to "yellow" in the near future. A remaining point of concern is the upcoming Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha/Greater Bairam, or the Feast of the Sacrifice. It marks the end of the annual pilgrimage to the holy city Mecca, and this year falls on Feb 2. It has been given as a potential date for attacks on several radical Islamic websites.
