As a none American I would like to hear from American members how and do they celebrate the 4th of July, dose the day hold as much significance as it did say 20 years ago.

I celebrate it the old fashioned way. A good old fashioned Barbeque. Lots of burgers, dogs, corn, a couple kinds of salads, and of course lots of beer!
Then of course you have the fireworks displays.
Does it have the same significance as it did 20 years ago? To me, absolutely. But I would probably be in the minority on that one. Patriotism doesn't seem to be running rampant in the streets here any more.

As someone who lives in DC, where we don't really get a vote but still have to pay taxes, I just enjoy the day off work. I'm going to the baseball game, then a BBQ and will walk downtown to watch the fireworks.
