Personally, I don't that such a "nothing" exists or has ever existed. But the higgs field is not matter, not anything that is tangible. Furthermore it's everywhere and in everything that exists. That's why they have Higgs "particles" in apostrophes.

And furthermore, even the matter doesn't really exists. Merely the probability is there that something exists, according to quantum physics.

I agree Bandit, "matter" is indeed an illusion. Matter is simply geometric relationships of different energies. Electromagnetic, photonic and gravity. String Theory and M-Theory both postulate based on mathematics in theoretical physics that our universe is within higher dimensions and that there are 11 dimensions, not just 4. This is important to consider when talking about the "Big Bang", spirituality, creationism, etc. Extra dimensions opens up almost limitless possibilities to what the universe is really like and so we must ALL keep an open mind. As before, don't stop asking the questions, but remember to stop, be still and listen for the answers. I BELIEVE that they are coming to us all the time, but most of us are too busy to pay attention or "asleep" spiritually speaking. Time to "wake up."

lilblam: I get the impression that you have some issues with the Christian church... (read Catholic church). Am I correct? I went through a lot of the same questions you've been asking when I was in my early twenties. I even consider myself an athiest for awhile.
