I just stumbled across this.

Apparently coltan used in the production of cell phones to playstations and everything in between, is being mined with such demand that the Republic of Congo is taking advantage of the Rwandans and wiping out gorillas.

I had no idea. Its right up there with diamond mining.

Quick, somebody get Leonardo DiCaprio we need to make "Blood Coltan."

I never thought so much guilt would be attributed to my cell phone.

Can I get a 'blood' free DVD player?

Bumping this 5-year-old thread because the US is still at war in Afghanistan to fill our tech needs. Your iPhones, iPad, Samsung devices - these minerals exist in the Middle East and the US doesn't have enough or any of them. We fight war to sell devices to boost the US economy. Thank Apple, IBM, MS, HP.
