Saddled with a shortfall of at least $14 billion and a promise not to raise taxes, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is likely to release a budget next week with few surprises it will contain cuts, cuts and more cuts.

www.cbsnews.com...

Arnold promised to protect education / school funding and its one of the ones top of the list with the public health and welfare programs

Yup... time to slash and burn. Everyone started squealing bloody murder when Mayor Bloomberg started the same thing here in NYC. Sure, lots of fat was cut... but lots of nice programs and cultural amenities were also killed or nearly killed. But in the end, now the city is stronger and looking to emerge from a horrible budget deficit after 9/11/2001 (we lost a commercial tax-base nearly equivalent to all of downtown Atlanta, Georgia!). The hard hitting slash-and-burn of budgets is something a politician is ill-equipped to do... that's why Bloomberg was able to get it done... and maybe Arnie has a chance... time will tell.
